Homeschool Evolution Part II

On Monday, I wrote about Charlotte Mason’s three pillars of education: atmosphere, discipline, and life. You can go back to the last post to read it.

Today, I want to write about how our homeschool evolved using her three categories of knowledge: knowledge of God, knowledge of Man, Knowledge of the Universe.

I. Knowledge of God
Our days began with Bible, Prayer and Hymn. The purpose is teach our children that God is the foundation of truth and that all things true, good, and beautiful point to God. I love seeing how my children are growing I wisdom, and love for Christ. They enjoy singing hymns and my daughter is even trying to learn how to play them in the piano.

II. Knowledge of Man
This category includes history, literature, language arts, art, and music. History is my favorite subject. I taught history for 6.5 years. I love CM approach to use living books as a way to teach history instead of textbooks. However, I did notice that the switching book to book wasn’t my daughter’s favorite way of learning. My daughter did fall in love with literature. I could tell it sparkles her imagination.

III. Knowledge of the Universe
Knowledge of the universe includes Science, Geography, Mathematics, Physical Education, and Handicrafts.

This was my daughter’s favorite category. We used Masterbooks for science and Burgess Animal Book for nature study. She loved learning about all the animals and how God created this world. For math we used Math-u-see, which is a straight forward math. She got it and enjoyed it. For geography we used Masterbooks geography book and a workbook I found on Amazon. For PE we used YouTube videos and on handcrafts…well let’s just I need to improve on that area.

All in all, this was a wonderful school year. I’m looking forward to improving all the mistakes I made and have a more smooth homeschool experience next year.

In what areas do you feel like you could improve next year?
