Biblical Meditation

A couple Sundays ago, my pastor gave an amazing sermon about filling our minds with all things true, good, and beautiful. This includes meditation, music, and mentors.

I was really intrigued by this sermon because I have heard the word meditation in church but I also hear the word meditation in new age theology and I knew they were not the same thing. On this particular Sunday, he clarified the two:

- Eastern medication is emptying one’s mind.
- Biblical medication is filling one’s mind with the word of God.
- One more note, anything that we are stewing in our minds on is what we are meditating on.

Today, I’m going to share what personal study I’m using to help me meditate on God’s word. I’m using Brighter Day’s Press Morning Moments for Moms cards. In those cards we read through one book of the Bible in a month. I journal about it in my @wholeheartedquiettime journal and write down my prayer.

As for music, I am being more mindful on what music I allow to enter the house. The Charlotte Mason method has helped with that and now listen to lots of classical music, movie soundtracks, and hymns. As well as some folk songs.

My Christian mentors include Alisa Childers, an apologist, and Elisabeth Elliot.

Filling my mind with God’s word has really helped me have a more gentle and quiet spirit.

How do you meditate on God’s word?
