Why it's good to have school portfolios

It’s the end of the year and I’m putting together my children’s portfolio’s. This year I’m making two.

I do believe it is good to make yearly portfolios so your children can see their progress and they are wonderful keepsakes. I love to see how their handwriting improves over the years.

Each portfolio contains some sample work, a term exam, and an end of the year reflection that contained reflection on the curriculum, child, and myself and a mother-teacher.

This year we did a lot of it together. I told my girls that we can’t keep everything and to chose their favorite work to put into their portfolio. They were very excited to help and participate.

When the portfolios are complete, I put them in a bin. I will say choosing their favorite work can be hard. In a couple of cases, I decided to keep the entire notebook because they were so good.

I compile all their work and put in in a three ring, pocket folder. This way it’s light and easy to put in a bin.

Do you keep work samples or is it hard to get rid of their work?
