Why Charlotte Mason: Living Books
One of the first things that attracted me to the Charlotte Mason method was her love for what she called “living” books.
Living books are books that contain beautiful art, teach a good lesson, and inspire imagination.
I especially love the use of living books in history. I fell in love with history as a child because I read living books on my spare time.
I used living books only once in my lessons when I taught history and my students learned and remembered that lesson best.
Sadly, I didn’t make the connection otherwise I would have used more living books. It’s such a great tool to help remember concepts and people.
Living books should add truth, beauty, and lessons of goodness to your life. They add more to life than the ability to learn how to read.
Do you include living books in your lessons?
