Storybook Bibles or Real Bibles
Pastor John MacArthur says, “Children need to become familiar with a real Bible. It has been popular to put simple bible story books in the hands of children rather than the actual word of God and this is a mistake, Children need to learn and love the Bible, with its readable text, current translation, and beautiful artwork…”
I cannot agree with him more. I feel like storybook bibles like “disneyfy” the Bible with all kinds of happy endings. They water down the stories. In doing so, the stories no longer hold the weight that they are meant to hold and create a fairy-tale image of who God truly is.
As someone who studied history, I find it incredibly important to always refer to the original text. Reading from the real Bible is lays down a solid foundation. Most storybook bibles just don’t cut it for me.
In today’s post, I want to share some good children’s Bibles that I believe would make Bible time even more special.
In my opinion, a good Children’s Bible should have beautiful picture, maps, and book introductions. Any additional information is a bonus. I do believe a Bible with these elements will cultivate curiosity in your children to want to read it on their own.
Find an engaging Bible that you can use for your daily readings your children will love. Get yourself a copy of the same Bible. I think it’s also good for you to have a copy of the same Bible so you can all be on the same page.
Below I’ll post some Bibles that I think would be good to use for Bible time.
