How Charlotte Mason Has Influenced My Motherhood
“A mother who wears many hats must find time for Mother Culture.” Karen Andreola, Charlotte Mason Companion, p. 350.
Although Charlotte Mason was not a married or a mother, she had a deep respect and love for mothers. She knew and understood that mothering was hard. In addition being a mother-teacher was especially difficult.
It is for this reason that she emphasized the need for the mother to make time for herself and grow intellectually and grow in skills. She also believed a mother needed to train her temper to be more gentle.
Charlotte Mason has not only helped me grow stronger in my relationship with the Lord, but she has helped me in my motherhood by emphasizing the importance of having a steady temper and make time for reading good book.
I now bake bread on a weekly basis and am learning to watercolor. Soon I’ll be planing my own garden in my own home. These are skills that I never imagined myself having and would never have had if I had remained a public school teacher.
I must add that my temper is much more self-controlled too but I think that also comes with years of experience.
Following the Charlotte Mason method has opened the door for so many opportunities to learn new skills. Charlotte Mason’s educational method isn’t just for children, it’s for mothers too.
If you use the Charlotte Mason method, how has she influenced your motherhood journey?
