For the Children’s Sake
For the Children’s Sake was the first book I read on the Charlotte Mason method when I was first recommended to follow her footsteps.
My favorite quote in the book is when she described how Charlotte Mason “let them [the children] enjoy beauty in nature, writing, art, music, and the Bible as God’s word to them. She left them precious childhood house free to climb trees, explore woods, walk, ride, what have you.”
What a beautiful childhood experience! To give them the tools to love learning.
So why do I homeschool? Really for two reasons: 1) because I believe God has called me to and it is my duty to trust and obey Him, 2) for the Children’s Sake.
- For the children’s sake we sacrifice and serve our children.
- For the children’s sake we teach using living books.
- For the children’s sake we go out in nature to study it.
- For the children’s sake we read books and poetry together.
- For the children’s sake we cultivate habits and life skills.
- For the children’s sake we read the Bible together daily.
Charlotte Mason said, “Education is an atmosphere, a discipline, a life.” Using Charlotte Mason’s method we are creating a love for learning that goes beyond the “classroom”.
