You Learn With Them

A young lady one day expressed to me that when she had children she wanted to homeschool but was afraid of not knowing how to teach subjects like math. I responded to her, “ you learn with them.”

I too had that same fear of no knowing how I would teach subjects like science and math. And that was fear made me doubt in my ability to homeschool.

However, now that I know more, I can share with you that it’s not something to worry about. The curriculums I’ve used keep in mind that worry in mind.

For math I use Math-U-See. Math-U-see has video lessons at the beginning of each unit. Parents and children can watch those videos together and prepare for the lesson.

As for science, I use Masterbooks and the lesson are easy enough for my daughter and I learn alongside each other.

I’m also learning about animals for nature study using the Burgess Animal Book. Not to mention all the beauty subjects like Art and Poetry Study, and books we are reading together.

Charlotte Masons said, “Education is a life.” The goal of teaching is to help our children become life long learners. The fact of the matter is that I too am learning more now than I did when I was in the classroom. My children don’t know I’m learning with them and that’s okay. We are having fun together and that’s be part.

Homeschool helps families bond together and form tight relationships. So don’t worry about what you don’t know because as I said before, you will learn with them.

Is fear of knowledge keeping you from homeschooling?

P.S. Picture was taken by my first born, Audrey age 7.
