What is a Charlotte Mason Education?

Every third Monday of the month, the #charlottemasonmondays group will be discussing a chapter from a book we are reading.

The book we are discussing first is For the Children’s Sake by Susan Schaeffer Macaulay. If you don’t have a copy of this book, get a copy and join the conversation! If you do have a copy please read along and join the conversation!

Back to the topic ……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

“Education is an adventure…It’s about people, children reality!” - Susan Schaeffer Macaulay (FTCS, p. 2)

In the first chapter of FTCS, introduces us to Charlotte’s Mason’s vision of what an education should be like.

Charlotte Mason believed that the Bible is the foundation of truth. This means all subjects when taught correctly point us to our Creator.

She was an advocate for children and believed that “Children are born persons,” and “should be treated as individuals”.

This means that when education is done correctly, children are exposed to a rich variety of subjects, which would in turn “bring joy, stability and richness to every child”.

Charlotte Mason’s conviction that the Bible is the foundation for truth means that every child matters regardless of his background. Every person has value.

This is why I chose to follow the Charlotte Mason method.

Do you agree with Miss Charlotte Mason?
