The book that got me to love history
By Mirley R. Graf
Years ago when my mom used to take us to the library to check out books for the summer, I checked out Pocahontas by Ingri d'Aulaire and Edgar Parin d'Aulaire. This book was so much fun to read. The pictures were beautiful and I related with Pocahontas's wild and free spirit.
Although later in life I found out that John Smith had more than likely made up this tale, it still got me into history. I must have read that book two or three times and it was the book that got me excited about learning history.
Charlotte Mason discusses the importance of living books because they make any subject come to life and get children excited about subjects more than dry facts. They invite children to want to learn more about the subjects they are studying.
I’m really excited to see what books make a difference in my children’s lives.
