Technology in Homeschool
I do believe technology has its place in education. It’s actually not good for our children to be completely banned from technology in a world that depends on it. It is our duty to teach our children how to use technology wisely.
In our homeschool we use it sporadically. I do use technology mostly for educational purposes and allow fun TV in the afternoon for 1/2 hour.
Below is a list of subjects where I use educational technology:
Screens:
- Math: Math-u-see tutorials
- Rosetta Stone
- YouTube: Read alouds, Hymns, Catechism songs, Folksongs, nature videos
- Answers in Genesis: Building Blocks
Audio:
- Yoto
- Audible
- CDs
For fun TV we watch:
- Wild Kratts
- Superbook
- Movies that go with books we have read
One should not feel guilty for using technology or screens. However, as someone who’s made a couple of mistakes at the beginning, I would advise not to allow children to have tablets with educational games outside of school hours. I have observed that allowing screens (even if it is educational) outside of educational hours can reduce a child’s ability to be creative.
How do you use technology in your home?
