Home Management

One of my favorite homes I have ever walked into is my grandparents home. They lived in a small two bedroom, one bathroom home. They had all their necessities, kept a clean home, were content, and a secret ingredient. There was something in the atmosphere of their home that made it special.

When I asked one of my aunts what made their home feel special, she replied “Love”.

My grandparents were devout Christians who loved the Lord and did their best to live a godly life. Their home was one area where you could see the evidence of that.

I desire to create a home full of truth and grace like that of my grandparents. Doing so has required me to be more flexible and forgiving of the messes my children make. It has not been easy but I am learning.

I believe the five pillars of homemaking are cleanliness, meals, finances, contentment, atmosphere.

1. Cleanliness: I keep a cleaning schedule that helps me handle the mess.

2. Meal plans: I write down what we plan to eat and then buy groceries accordingly.

3. Finances: finances are a huge part of managing a home. It’s important to keep track one one’s finances and be content with what we have.

4. Atmosphere: Atmosphere is key to creating a safe haven for our family. This is the vibe of the home. This includes the music we play, how speak to each other, the stories we read, how we deal with stress, even the smell of the home.

It was the atmosphere in my grandparents home that was so lovely. It was their way they spoke to each other. It was their love for God that was reflected in the home that made it so inviting.

It is my hope to cultivate a home like theirs.

What do you think are the pillars of home management?
