CM in the Modern Age
It sometimes saddens me when reject all that is from the past. There is wisdom in the past. People actually loved their lives learned and taught based on their experiences and knowledge.
When I was introduced to Charlotte Mason, it was because I wanted a homeschool curriculum that did handicrafts, encourages reading good books (I didn’t know the term living books back then), and encouraged spending time in nature. I also wanted a curriculum that encouraged learning about the arts since most public schools had done away with that. That was when the homeschool workshop leader said that Charlotte Mason was a perfect fit for what I was looking for.
I have loved the Charlotte Mason method more than I thought I would. Her style in teaching children how to read and write is so fun and doable. We actually look forward to ELA when I dreaded it as a child.
What I didn’t know is that her method would bring me closer to Christ. I didn’t knew that her method would bring our family closer because method is founded in Biblical truth.
On most days, our homeschool has a calm atmosphere, which is also a big part of the Charlotte Mason method.
Just because Charlotte Mason lived in the late 1800s and died in the early 1900s doesn’t mean her methods are outdated.
Just because she didn’t marry and have children, doesn’t mean her wisdom doesn’t apply to all of us homeschool mamas. She was very well respected among parents in her time.
Are you a Charlotte Mason fan? Or curious about her?
