Charlotte Mason Simplified
Charlotte Mason can be simplified into five pillars. Each pillar is her unique take on Classical Education.
1. Children are Born Persons
This principle is the first and most important of the other pillars. This pillar emphasizes the fact humans are not machines but rather made in the image God. It is our duty to teach our children diligently while giving them room to explore their gifts and talents.
2. Education is an Atmosphere
The atmosphere of the home includes the temperament of the mother, the words used in the home, books read, the music played, the art displayed, and the cleanliness of the home.
3. Education is a Discipline
Education is a discipline is all about training the mind, body and soul. This includes intellectual habits, moral habits, physical habits, religious habits, & miscellaneous habits.
4. Education is a life
When we learn something it becomes engrained in us. We want to share our findings with others and learn more. Learning is never boring but rather fun.
5. Education is the Science of Relations
All education is connected. It is important for us to show that all knowledge comes from the Creator of knowledge: God. In a Charlotte Mason education, it is understood that the Bible is the foundation for truth.
All in all, this is how I summarize the Charlotte Mason method. I hope this helps and encourages you to learn more about her.
