A Day in the Life of a Navy Family Going Through PCS

This year has been a wild one. It is our second PCS (moving in military) we are going through since starting our homeschool journey. The first one was in 2020, the year we started to homeschool.

This move however is more intense because we are also traveling for my husband’s class in another state. As a result, we are living in a hotel for a while. Therefore, I have to be very flexible.

So here is how I’m homeschooling while on PCS:

1. I don’t homeschool when traveling: I thought we could homeschool but it just wasn’t feasible.
2. While in the hotel, we homeschool as normal as possible. I purchased mini white boards and only use what is necessary.
3. I will not be purchasing books, so I will be using the library and YouTube a lot more.
4. Lunch is becoming Tea Time.
5. Take as many field trips as possible, they count as school days too.

This time away from home is making me really shift my focus to what is important. We are keeping school simple but effective. We are exploring the outdoors a lot more.

Although this is temporary, I thought it would be good to share for anyone going in the same situation.

What does your typical day look like?
