2023-2024 Lessons Learned

Today is the first day of school and I am reflecting on the lessons I learned from last year. Each year I try to log what lessons I learned so I can improve the next year.

Here are five lessons I learned from the 2023-2024 school year:

1. Keep it Simple
Last year we moved from California to Texas and took trip to Rhode Island for my husband’s class. We drove on this move and I had to only take the essentials of our homeschool.

2. Be consistent to one curriculum
Because of the move, I could not be jumping around from curriculum to curriculum and testing out what worked for us. I used the curriculum we had and saw a lot of growth and enjoyment for doing so.

3. If you must switch curriculum during the school year, do so at the beginning of the year.

4. There is no perfect curriculum
Knowing there is no perfect curriculum gives me so much freedom to skip portions and supplement them with something else.

5. Throw out what you don’t need
This is the first year I through out our notebooks without guilt because I created a portfolio that helped me organize all the important narrations into one small location.

What lessons did you learn last school year?
