2020-2021 Homeschool Lessons Learned
We finally wrapped up this school year. We were able to slide right into homeschooling because of the pandemic.
We started school in Virginia and half way through the year we moved to California where my husband is now stationed.
I must admit homeschooling was a huge learning curve. I wasn’t sure what curriculum to buy and although some curriculum was pretty and magical on Instagram it didn’t work for me. So with that said, here are some lessons I learned from homeschooling this year.
1. It’s okay to change your curriculum if it doesn’t work for your and your children. I knew homeschooling but flexible but the ability to change curriculum made things so much better for us.
2. Don’t get side tracked. Once I learned I could change curriculum I got excited to try it all. That too is not a good idea. One ends up spending too much money and getting lost in the process.
3. Stick to a method. Once you have discovered your method of choice, mine being Charlotte Mason, only use curriculums that support that method and avoid adventuring out.
4. Follow less accounts. One way to get lost and overly excited about the wonderful ideas that homeschool families are doing is by following too many accounts. I have given myself a limit as to how many accounts I follow and doing so keeps me grounded and focused on what matters.
5. Lastly, make it your own. Homeschooling doesn’t look the same for any family. Feel free to add when needed and remove when needed.
I truly enjoyed homeschooling, and I look forward to continuing this journey in the future.
Let me know in the comments sections what lessons you learned this year.
